HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS EPISODE!

  • We all know we want to serve our children first, but don’t forget about yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup

  • When we don’t take care of ourselves, we are not our best self, we can not show up the best as the mom we want to be. Our kids want to see their mom happy.

  • Call it “movement”, drink water, did I do something for my body that makes me feel good.

  • Our workout time should be looked at as time for our physical health but also for our MENTAL health. Be in a better place when you come back. Do not forget that.

  • Adjust as we go when our days don’t go as planned. Many days our “plan” can be busted. Be flexible.

  • Secret spots in our day to squeeze in a workout and not sacrifice “summer with the kids”. Make movement be a part of your days. Get your kids involved.

    • For little ones, make it normal for the kids to see that working out is a normal part of your day. Your children will start replicating your exercises and learn how important it is.

    • Lower your expectations, but make it fun and make it happen

    • You don’t have to be in the gym, use your stairs, do squats while you fold laundry, calf raises at the sink or blow drying your hair

    • Always be thinking about how you can move.

    • Park further away, take the stairs

    • Go on a run with your teenager, talk and connect

    • Be purposeful in creating the intentional moments during movement together

  • How do we stay motivated and consistent when we are exhausted? Sometimes busy seasons bring a period of neglecting our bodies and health goals. Don’t completely neglect yourself this summer and when they go back to school you will feel so good and the mental side of you will benefit greatly.

  • Know the natural flow of your week and figure out what you CAN do for the day. If a 40 minute workout won’t fit, do a 10 minute walk.

  • Make a list of fun places to go where:

    • everyone is happy

    • it achieves mental health for yourself

    • It prioritizes myself

    • And still feel like I’m showing up as happy mom

    • Giving my children those fun summer memories

  • To focus on consistency as you go into the summer, think of a few habits you want to do consistently. Example, moving my body 30 minutes/day, drink a certain amount of every day, focus on the nutrition - summer brings a lot of benefits to good fresh food, quick meals on grill…..and you may have to let a few things go and that is okay.

Final Togather™ Thought…

Ask yourself: What is realistic? What does a realistic summer of fitness look like for you?

Are you paying attention to your fitness goals also as mental health goals?
